About Carl A. Gross Airport
We are a member-owned public airport. Our lighted grass strip is maintained spring, summer and fall. We promote the value of sport of aviation through our Young Eagles Program, by providing access for emergency and public safety air services, as well as supporting air-tourism along the east side of the state. Most importantly, we just have fun!
Guests are welcome anytime. Most everyday you will find someone here to chat with. We also host two summer events each year, and would love to meet you. Fly over to the “Sun-Rise Side” for a visit.
HISTORY
Carl A. Gross was a business man who owned an automotive component repair shop in Clio, Michigan. He specialized in rebuilding starters, generators, brakes, water pumps, and more. When the I-75 corridor construction forced his business to be moved to Pinconning in 1969, he took the opportunity to build and hanger (before his house!) and a runway in a pickle field. Jim Klien met the Gross family through his church, and when Carl died in 1975, Jim asked his wife Dorothy if he could rent Carl’s hanger. In 1976, Jim and a small group fellow enthusiasts bought the air strip and hanger from Dorothy and incorporated the airport. It has been a community asset ever since.
